  • The challenge

    A major UK energy retailer needed a long-term partner to upgrade hundreds of thousands of homes and small businesses to SMETS2 meters under the national smart meter programme.


    Our approach

    OnStream provided an initial £120m facility to deploy 600,000 meters, followed by a further long-term commitment supporting an additional 1.2 million meters through to 2030. Leveraging the team’s operational expertise, OnStream developed a new Meter Asset Provision (MAP) model to reduce risk and remove operational complexity.

    Faster rollout, reduced capex pressure, and a scalable, compliant smart metering programme supported by a partner built for certainty.

    As Germany’s energy system evolves, a leading metering point operator needed capital and operational expertise to scale deployment and support grid balancing needs.

    Leveraging our deep MAP experience, OnStream acquired 50,000 installed meters and structured a long-term solution that made us Germany’s largest independent MAP.
